The Canadian Super Visa

Super Visa is a good alternative for those Citizens and Permanent residents of Canada, whose application for Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship (PGP) were unsuccessful.

What is the Canadian Super Visa?

The super visa is a way for certain relatives (not including dependents), with Canadian citizenship or permanent residency from countries whose citizens require temporary resident visas, to have an extended stay in Canada. An extended stay can be for up to two years, and successful applicants can be allowed re-entry for up to 10 years from the time they get their visa from. However, the rules are strict and any errors or falsified claims (whether intentional or not) can be very difficult to fix and may compromise the application altogether. The benefits of the ease and speed of obtaining this permit compared with being sponsored, and that family members cannot be denied due to medical conditions, though a medical exam is required.

Qualifications

To qualify to apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for this visa, it is obligatory for family members to meet some requirements.

Funds

Applicants need to have evidence of sufficient funds. The minimums are as follows:

  • $24,949 for one applicant
  • $31,061 for two applicants
  • $38,185 for three applicants
  • $46,362 for four applicants
  • $52,583 for five applicants
  • $59,304 for six applicants
  • $66,027 for seven applicants
  • $6,723 more is required for each additional applicant

In addition, proof must be shown that a relative in Canada has Canadian medical coverage for the applicant(s).

Proof of Intent to Return

Applicants must prove that they have full intentions not to stay in Canada, but to return to their home country or the country they are coming from. Sufficient reasons include:

  • family members
  • work or more convincingly, a career
  • property such as a home or business
  • a pension

Getting Started

If those criteria are met, an invitation must be issued by the family member residing here in Canada, and documentation proving their familiar relationship, such as a birth certificate must be shown as well. Once the application is submitted, the approximate time for family and relatives to obtain this visa is two months, however that is just a general approximation, there is no guarantee on how long it will take.
